Today's guest is Paul Lima from Lima Consulting. Paul is a trusted adviser to the visionaries and change agents of today, charged with creating the digital futures of tomorrow. In 2004, Paul founded Lima Consulting Group, a multinational consultancy with offices throughout the Americas. Paul's personal mission is to apply innovation to help organizations transform their digital futures. He is the author of the firm's flagship offering "The Digital Transformation Maturity Model" used by Fortune 100 companies and mid-sized businesses alike in strategically applying digital innovations to deliver world class customer service.

What does Lima Consulting do?

They have a mission to help tranform the digital futures of tomorrow. Digital transformation means to apply innovation as it relates to customer experiences.

What is "digital transformation"?

It is being able to deploy the people, processes and platforms to attain a desired financial performance. The focus is on improving the customer experience. Volvo has transformed itself. Now you can actually rent a Volvo (and this is a lot different from a lease). Volvo is an example of the kind of work Lima Consulting does with organizations to help them reimagine their digital futures.

What is your biggest challenge in doing this?

This is a strategy problem. Many CEOs cause issues because they have shiny object syndrome. They are constantly pushing their people to do new things that they themselves have become enamored with. Instead, we try to teach them to envision a new model complete. Go back to that Volvo example and them renting their vehicles.

What path did you follow before founding Lima Consulting Group?

I started West Point in 1989. We were just the second college to be wired. I minored in systems engineering and majored in economics. When I went into the military, we were using the concept of digital transformation and the cavalry. As a calvary officer in Fort Lewis and Korea, we had a new situational awareness of our tanks with satellite technology.

After the military I got an MBA at Wharton.

What is your current biggest challenge at Lima Consulting?

Allocating constrained resources.

Tell me about your new eBook?

It is aimed at helping a digital transformation leader get started to initiate their project and what they need to know in the first 90 days.

How do you land new engagements?

I would say a lot of it is the content we create. We love to collaborate with other organizations, like we do with you, Mike. In a nutshell, we use content marketing and webinars.

Is your approach to managing more formal or more laid back?

It is an extension of my own personality, so at times it is more formal while at other times it is more laid back.

Do you have any advice for people trying to deal with their business during this pandemic?

Solve problems, create value, and invest in yourself.
